In short

  • Every IdeaSoft product has four fields that matter for search: page title, meta description, meta keywords and the product description.
  • The page title is 50–60 characters and starts with the main keyword; the meta description is 140–160 characters.
  • Don't copy the supplier's description: write an original text of at least 120 words.
  • Google doesn't use meta keywords for ranking, so keep that field short and do the real work in the title and description.

In most IdeaSoft stores, product SEO fields are either empty or a copy of the product name, which leaves Google to describe the product by guesswork. This guide covers what each IdeaSoft field does, how to fill it in and how to cope with hundreds of products.

The SEO fields of an IdeaSoft product

These fields are in the SEO section of the product edit screen. They're all independent of the product name, so you can keep the name shown in your store and write a separate title for search.

FieldWhat it doesTarget
Page titleThe blue title on Google and the name in the browser tab50–60 characters, main keyword first
Meta descriptionThe summary under the title in search results140–160 characters
Meta keywordsNot used by Google for ranking4–8 short phrases, optional
Product descriptionThe page's main content; Google understands the product from itAt least 120 words, original

1. Page title: main keyword first

The title should start with the phrase a searcher would type: product type, distinguishing feature and the brand if there is one. A 50–60 character title usually shows in full on Google; add your store name at the end if there's room.

Weak

Strong

The strong title starts with the words a searcher uses and says what the product is for.
  • Make every product's title unique. If colors or sizes are set up as separate products, put the difference in the title.
  • Avoid all caps, exclamation marks and emoji.
  • Leave prices and campaigns out of the title; when they change, the old information lingers in search results.

2. Meta description: the summary that earns the click

A meta description won't change your ranking, but it changes clicks. Fit what the product is, the feature that sets it apart, the benefit and a short call to action into 140–160 characters. See the meta description guide for examples and templates.

3. Meta keywords: keep them short

Google doesn't use the meta keywords tag for ranking. Since IdeaSoft has the field, filling it in does no harm: 4–8 short, lowercase phrases without repeats are enough. Do the real keyword work in the title and the product description.

4. Product description: don't copy the supplier's text

Using the supplier's description as is means sharing the same text with dozens of other stores. Google usually surfaces only one of several near-identical pages, and there's no guarantee it will be yours. This structure works for most products:

  1. An opening paragraph: what the product is, who it's for and what problem it solves.
  2. Key features: a list of 3–6 points, covering only features the product really has.
  3. A short close: how to use it, care instructions or compatibility.

At least 120 words is a good minimum, and 150–250 words is enough for most products. Don't guess at sizes, materials or contents; write what's on the product card.

5. Check before you publish

  • Look at how the title and description will appear in search results. Is any sentence cut off?
  • Don't change the address (URL) of a live product. If you must, set up a permanent (301) redirect from the old address to the new one.
  • After making changes, you can ask Google to recrawl the page with the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console.

Frequently asked questions

When do SEO changes on IdeaSoft take effect?
Google sees the change when it recrawls the page, which can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. For important pages, you can request a recrawl with the URL Inspection tool in Search Console.
Do I need to rename products for SEO?
No. The page title is a separate field from the product name, so you can keep the name in your store and write a separate title for search.
Which IdeaSoft fields does Benefity change?
For products: page title, meta description, meta keywords and description. For categories: the SEO fields and description. For blog posts: the SEO fields and excerpt. It never touches prices, stock, variants or images.
