Bulk product SEO with Excel: thousands of products at once

Whatever platform you're on, do product SEO in bulk with Excel: prepare the file, match the columns, approve the drafts and import the results back.

In short

  • Most e-commerce platforms can export and import products as Excel or CSV, which makes it the shortest route to bulk SEO for stores without an API connection.
  • The process has four steps: export, upload and match columns, write and approve, then import the results back.
  • The only required column is the product name; extra columns such as material, size or color are used as information when the copy is written.
  • Before importing, remove price and stock columns from the file and try it with a few products first.

WooCommerce, Magento, Wix or your own software: if your store isn't on IdeaSoft, Shopify or ikas, which Benefity connects to directly, the road to bulk SEO runs through Excel. Most platforms export products as Excel or CSV and import them back in the same format. This guide shows how to refresh the titles, meta descriptions and descriptions of thousands of products in one pass with that loop.

The process: four steps

  1. Export your products from your platform as Excel or CSV.
  2. Upload the file to Benefity and confirm the column mapping.
  3. Write the products with Benefity AI, then review and approve the drafts.
  4. Download the results file and import it back into your platform.

1. Prepare the file

  • Format: .xlsx or .csv. The CSV separator (semicolon, comma or tab) is detected automatically. Save old .xls files as .xlsx first.
  • Size: up to 15 MB and 20,000 rows per file.
  • Make the first row a header row, with a name for every column.
  • The only required column is the product name. If there are no SEO columns yet, that's fine; they start empty.
  • Keep an ID or SKU column. When you import the results file back into your platform, rows are matched on that column.

The more information, the better the copy. Keep columns like material, size, color, capacity or use case in the file: every column that isn't recognized is used as product information when the copy is written. Only that information is used; features, discounts or warranties that aren't in the file are never added.

2. Upload and match the columns

When you upload the file, you first see a preview showing how each column was recognized; you can fix any that are wrong and confirm. Column headers can be in Turkish or English, and capitalization doesn't matter. Some examples:

FieldRecognized column headers (examples)
Product nameÜrün Adı, Ad, İsim, Name, Product Name, Title
SKUSKU, Stok Kodu, Ürün Kodu, Model Kodu, Product Code
IDID, Ürün ID, Product ID, Handle
SEO titleSEO Başlığı, Meta Başlık, Sayfa Başlığı, Meta Title, SEO Title, Page Title
Meta descriptionMeta Açıklama, SEO Açıklaması, Meta Description, SEO Description
DescriptionAçıklama, Ürün Açıklaması, Detay, Description, Product Description, Content
CategoryAny header containing “kategori” or “category”
Any other columnUsed as product information when writing the copy

Starting from scratch? The Download a sample template link on the upload screen gives you a blank template. If you leave a field unmapped, its existing value stays as it is.

3. Write, review, approve

Select your products and write them with Benefity AI. Large jobs run in the background, so you can close the tab and the drafts will be waiting when they're ready. Each product gets:

  • A 50–60 character SEO title with the main keyword first
  • A 140–158 character meta description
  • A list of 4–8 keywords
  • A 150–250 word product description: an introduction, a list of key features and a closing paragraph

See every draft with an SEO score, a character counter and a Google preview, edit by hand if you like, and approve the ones you're happy with. You can download the results file with only the approved items.

4. Export and import back

Download the results file with everything or only the approved items. It has these columns: Type, ID, Name, SKU, URL, Category, SEO Title, Meta Description, Keywords, Description (HTML), Excerpt, Status and SEO Score. Rows with a draft carry the draft; rows without one carry the current value.

Then fit the file to your platform's import template: rename the columns to what your platform expects, keep the ID or SKU column for matching and leave only the SEO columns you want to update. Check your platform's help pages for which columns can be updated by import.

Excel or a direct connection?

If your store is on IdeaSoft, Shopify or ikas, connecting directly is quicker: approved fields are written to your store automatically and re-read to verify them, with no files to move around. See the IdeaSoft, Shopify and ikas guides for details. Excel covers every other platform, and one-off big clean-ups.
